General Essential Functions
- The IT Support Specialist is responsible for day to day support of computer software and hardware issues at all Dayton Gastro locations.
- Provides support in the operation and maximization of IT hardware and/or software systems as well as evaluation, testing and implementation of new systems or upgrades.
- Participates in determining and assuring system security as required by HIPAA rules and maintains electronic chart integrity.
- Develops detailed reports to meet enterprise or departmental information needs.
- When required, may install and/or perform minor troubleshooting procedures to hardware, software, or other peripheral equipment.
- Monitors daily backup completion and reports issues to IT vendor to identify and resolve problems or potential problems.
- Holds administrative rights to software systems. Initiatives and terminates user access at manager request. Acts as liaison to request or terminate access to third party systems such as hospital electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participates in setup and implementation of new systems, upgrades or modifications including evaluation and testing. Acts as a resource to others in determining system configurations or modifications to meet internal needs or external requirements.
- Assist with training materials or procedures and/or user training as required.
- Submits hardware/software problems to software vendor support or IT vendor as indicated.
- Problem-solves and monitors a variety of software/hardware.
- Provides support related to client internet based portal.
- Participates in performing system audits and identifying IT security risks as well as developing and/or implementing plans to mitigate risks.
- Maintains high standards of confidentiality with all employee information/records
Education/Experience/Knowledge
- Must be an active learner. This position is on the job training with a heavy emphasis on self-directed exploration of resources available, finding potential solutions and testing those solutions
- Training in basic technical operations or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum two years’ experience with practice management and electronic health record software required
- Have worked in a healthcare environment previously is preferred
- Experience in writing and modifying reports from software systems required
- Experience in medical billing and/or clinical practice is preferred
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware required
- Working knowledge of HIPAA security issues preferred
- SQL scripts and HL-7 interface knowledge required
- NextGen Electronic Medical Record and Practice Management software experience or certification preferred
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with Excel: Must be able to use formulas, pivot tables etc. required
- Knowledge of and experience with Crystal Reports required
