General Essential Functions
The Endoscopy Technician (Endo Tech) must competently perform assigned direct and indirect care activities including, but not limited to transporting patients, unit maintenance activities, proper cleaning and disinfection of scopes and other equipment, stocking supplies, clerical duties and assisting with procedures under direct supervision of physician and Endoscopy RN.
- Anticipates and maintains an adequate inventory of linens and supplies for the unit.
- Assists with transport of patients throughout the endoscopy unit and preparing patient for designated procedure.
- Handles patient specimens and documents
- Accurately obtains vital signs and documents on chart
- Sets up and assists physician with procedures
- Assists with preparing biohazard waste for removal from site.
- Disinfection of carts and equipment between patients
- Assists physician in procedure room with endo therapy and specimen collection as directed and documents such activities as appropriate
- Maintains high standards of confidentiality with all employee information/records
Education and Experience
- High School graduate required.
- Previous medical office experience is preferable.
- Certification in Medical Assisting and computer experience is preferred
- Must possess knowledge of acceptable parameters of pulse oximetry and blood pressures, blood borne pathogens and aseptic techniques
- Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- This position requires the ability to have sufficient strength to move carts, able to assist post sedation patient with ambulation
