Shirley graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Chemistry in 2000. She completed her certificate of practice in Physician Assistant Studies from Kettering College of Medical Arts in 2005, after which she began her career in Gastroenterology. She completed her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska in 2012 and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Shirley is married with two children. Her interests include hiking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was also a collegiate athlete in the sport of gymnastics.
